Project Archaeologist
Position Type: Full-Time
Base Pay: $20 to $24 per hour, DOE, plus excellent benefits which
include paid time off, 401(k) retirement plan, and 100 percent company-paid
employee health, life, and disability insurance. Reasonable relocation expenses

Summary
Anderson Perry & Associates, Inc. is seeking applicants for a Project Archaeologist to join our group of successful professionals who provide personalized professional services to communities and clients throughout central and eastern Oregon and Washington. AP has offices in La Grande, Redmond, and Hermiston, Oregon, and Walla Walla, Washington. Our preferred location for this position is our Walla Walla office, but the La Grande office will be considered as well.
Responsibilities
- Work
on a team to assist with the cultural resource review and assessment of
sites and properties associated with a variety of projects, including but
not limited to: infrastructure (water, wastewater, roads, and
bridges), irrigation, and stream restoration projects in central and
eastern Washington and Oregon.
- Lead
and conduct fieldwork for pedestrian survey, shovel testing, site testing,
and construction monitoring projects.
- Prepare
cultural resource inventory reports, monitoring reports, and
archaeological site forms and NRHP eligibility evaluations.
- Coordinate
with other archaeological staff, engineers, and technical staff on a wide
variety of projects.
Requirements
- Experience
leading archaeological fieldwork is a must.
- 1-5
years of experience preparing and conducting archaeological evaluations
and reporting.
- Familiarity
with federal and Washington and Oregon cultural resource management laws.
- Possess
a master’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or a related field.
- Meet
the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines Professional
Qualification Standards for Archaeology (see standards here).
- Be
previously approved or demonstrate the ability to be approved as an Oregon
qualified archaeologist within 6 months of hiring (see Oregon Revised Statute
390.235[6][B][b][A-C]).
- Knowledge
of Washington and Oregon archaeology and history are strongly desired.
- Ability
and skills to work in an interdisciplinary team environment is a must.
- Experience
interfacing with the State Historical Preservation Offices (SHPO) in
Oregon and Washington.
- Experience
working in ArcGIS preferred but not required.
- Frequent
travel and overnight stays are required for field work.
- Valid
driver's license is a must.
- Background
check permission must be provided.
- Writing
sample will be required as part of your application (no more than 10
pages. Can be an academic paper or article or a cultural resource
inventory report).
