SEARCH is looking for LA and TX Archaeologists and Archaeological Technicians


SEARCH is a leading nationwide and global provider of cultural resource services in the fields of Archaeology, Maritime Archaeology, Architectural History, History and Archives, and Museum Services.  We are continuously seeking top talent in the cultural resource management industry, and we have immediate openings for full-time Archaeologists and Archaeological Technicians to join our team and work on multiple archaeological surveys and excavation projects located primarily in the Southeast and South-Central United States.  These projects will take place in variable terrain and will involve shovel testing, test unit excavation, and site mapping and documentation.

Qualified candidates should have the following:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  2. Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field preferred.
  3. At least six (6) months of archaeological field experience required.
  4. Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualified is strongly preferred. 
  5. Competency with Phase II and III excavation;
  6. Proven experience with ESRI's software, including ArcGIS10;
  7. Ability to operate mapping equipment; such as Garmin, Trimble GPS units, Total Station or other electronic devices;
  8. Experience with GPR, magnetometer, and other remote sensing techniques is preferred;
  9. Advanced skills and knowledge in one or more specialty areas (e.g., lithic, ceramic, or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology) is preferred;
  10. Ability to take detailed project notes.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Ability to navigate using US Geological Survey (USGS) maps and aerial photography.
  13. Ability to travel for weeks at a time.
  14. A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
This position can be based out of SEARCH’s New Orleans, Louisiana office; or Austin, Texas office.  Preference will be given to qualified candidates local to SEARCH offices.  Chosen candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test and a criminal background check, including DMV. Applicants must be eligible to be employed in the United States.  SEARCH offers a competitive compensation package with strong health/wellness and retirement plans.  Pay is commensurate with education and experience.
