San Manuel Band of Mission Indians seeking qualifiable tribal monitors
SanManuelBandOfMissionIndians

The San Manuel Band of
Mission Indians (SMBMI) is a southern Californian tribe that maintains a close
relationship with their ancestral lands and who have been tasked by their
creator to steward this territory. This stewardship involves the monitoring of development
and soil disturbances and thus the need for tribal monitors. The cultural
resources department of the SMBMI is currently in search of tribal monitors who
fully or partially meet the following criteria;
- Are familiar with the San Bernardino, Kern, Riverside,
or Los Angeles county landscape
- Experience in monitoring
- Clear communication skills
- Ability to work remotely and independently
- DoD security clearance (preferred)
- Reside nearby the Serrano Ancestral Territory
Position Summary:
Under the direction of
an archaeological firm that would change on a project-to-project basis and the
Cultural Resource Analyst of the SMBMI's cultural department, the qualified
monitor would provide eyes and ears on soil disturbance projects. The qualified
monitor would fill out daily monitoring forms for SMBMI and any necessary
paperwork provided by the archaeological firm overseeing projects.
The position is unique
in that SMBMI does not contract out our monitors directly. Instead, they
operate as independent contractors. We keep a list of approved monitors that we
provide to CRM firms. The approved monitor would then negotiate wages with the
CRM firm.
