Job Location/Shift: This position will be located at 1659 East Elm St., Jefferson City, Missouri/Standard work day, 40 hours per week

Help us protect archaeological resources in Missouri State Parks and at various locations throughout the state.  You will use all of your archaeological skills to review projects, provide training, and support ethical cultural resource management.  No two days are ever the same for this archaeologist.


What you’ll do:

  • Plan and conduct archaeological surveys to identify potential archaeological sites
  • Assess possible impacts to sites from proposed projects
  • Provide training to field staff
  • Prepare Section 106 submittals for review by the State Historic Preservation Office
  • Direct infrequent archaeological excavations as needed


All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field AND one or more years of full- time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration or management; at least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archeology and demonstrated ability to carry research to completion. (Substitutions with education and experience may be allowed.)

 Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special Job Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of archaeological ethics, methodology, and techniques
  • Knowledge of Missouri or Midwestern history and prehistory
  • Knowledge of the state’s soils and physical attributes.
  • Skill in conducting research
  • Ability to use archaeological tools to uncover artifacts and preserve sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions.
