Temporary Research Assistant: Job Specifications
Part-time through Oct. 31, 2021/Grant-funded
Research Assistant is needed to support project development for an upcoming archaeology exhibition at the New Jersey State Museum (Trenton) using artifacts from the State Museum’s collections, as well as from significant archaeological sites throughout Trenton. The weekly hours for this part-time position may vary dependent on project need but are expected to average to 8-10 hours/week; compensation is $20/hour.
Required Education/Skills
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in archaeology, anthropology, history or museum studies or be a career professional with at least a master’s degree in one of the listed subjects.
Research experience needed.
Familiarity with basic museum registration standards and object handling practices preferred.
Experience with cataloging and scanning artifacts and photographs preferred.
Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
Ability to lift up to forty pounds and climb a step ladder.
Job Responsibilities
Assist the exhibition curator in the research and implementation phase of the exhibition by:
Conducting background research at locations throughout Trenton (e.g., libraries, historical sites, state agencies, archaeological sites); may include some travel to other locations within New Jersey. Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of current insurance.
Administer exhibition documents including, but not limited to: exhibition checklists, loan agreements, receipts, condition reports, insurance reports.
