Summary
This position is located at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, in the Resource Management and Science Division.

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs .The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for this park is April/May to November, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April/May 2021


Responsibilities
Participate in field surveys by walking over the landscape and searching for archeological features and artifacts. Records data and prepares survey records. Provides leadership to field crews by assigning tasks and monitoring the status of those assignments. Serves as Crew Chief for excavation and survey activities. Participates in artifact recovery and provenience determination.
Evaluates and assists in the evaluation of specimens. Processes specimens recovered in the field. Identifies, labels and packages artifacts for curation. Maintains related databases, forms, maps and files. Enters archeological artifact and project data including artifact information, catalog records, field notes, site records, etc. into automated systems, appropriate forms, and archival records. Retrieves and compiles data as required for reports and interpretive exhibits. Assists in the development of a variety of documents by gathering data from files and reports, conducting research, evaluating available information and preparing draft documents. Performs basic research by conducting interviews and publication and record searches, and synthesizing information collected for scientific, historical, and interpretive values.

Area Information: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is located in northeast Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey, along 40 miles of the Middle Delaware Scenic & Recreational River, encompassing approximately 70,000 acres in the two states. Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania is near the south end of the park and provides for adequate housing options and all major services. Housing availability exists throughout the 5-county area where the park is located. Summer season is often very warm and humid. Work location is based out of Bushkill, Pennsylvania in the Cultural Resources Branch of the Resource Management & Science Division. Also visit www.nps.gov/dewa
