Can anyone give me some tips on applying to graduate school, for anthropology? I understand it varies greatly from one program to another and from one school to another, but I'm guessing there are some general tips, ideas, strategies, etc. If all goes according to plan, I'll be working in the Museum/Lab for my last two semesters(yay slave labour), I'm currently studying for the GRE, my anthropology GPA is relatively good, my overall GPA is about the same, I’m serving in a treasurer position for a theatre association to which I belong, but that's about it. I don't really have a good idea of what is sought by the people who determine if a candidate is acceptable to enter the graduate program. What sorts of extracurricular, volunteer, etc, activities look good, in general? If someone would be kind enough to give me a few pointers, I'd be very greatful.
Also, as far as letters of recommendation go, how far in advance can I have them written, how many should I have, and in what way does the position and education of the writer reflect well or ill for me? (For instance, currently all of my letters would most likely come from a junior college.... albeit the assistant dean of the junior college, but still a junior college.)
