Interesting article regarding grad school
KB
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from pursuing grad school but I just read a fairly interesting article on the subject. It's fairly general but it does bring up some good points to consider.
Graduate School in the Humanities: Just Don't Go @ http://chronicle.com/jobs/news/2009/01/2009013001c.htm
From putting together an application packet, coursework, teaching, to the thesis, it's all a stressful and expensive process, yet very rewarding at the same time. I enjoyed grad school and am glad that I went but even though I had decent funding, I still wound up with about $15k in student loans.
On the various sites I've worked in, I've heard the debate on whether to go to grad school numerous times. I guess it ultimately comes down to what people want to do with their careers and how much money they anticipate to make down the line. In my case, my pay (at the same company) jumped about $15k/year but I've heard others say that their Masters only result in an extra $1/hour while they're working on the road.
Regardless, it's all an interesting debate.

Hmm, very intresting, seems like getting a good job is easier than getting into graduate school...good article though and I can deffintly relate to alot of it and see where he is coming from.
I dont meen to offend anyone reading this but it is true that alot of "academics" do have a holier than thou attitude sometimes and they make it seem that you arnt good enough to talk to them if you arnt a professor.
But this is also kinda conflicting with what is needed in our field, sometimes it feels like at least a masters is needed to make more than $15/hr.
