Interesting. I didnt see anything about the troops doing some of it. I have a friend in the marines who was telling me about the stuff that some of them pull out. He was saying in one of the bombed areas they were pulling huge pots out of the ground.
He knows better. . .NOW, after I gave him a talking to but I can only imagine some of the stuff thats going on over in these countries and the history they are losing.
I am not saying soldiers are doing all the looting so please dont flame this post because you think I am talking down the military because your brother is over there.

I saw a Powerpoint presentation from a few years ago that was given to a soldier that had deployed to Iraq. They were stationed near a well-known archaeological site, and were repeatedly instructed both in the Powerpoint presentation and by the higher-ups not to disturb the artifacts or site, and to report anyone who had. I would venture a guess that this is military policy across the board now, and anyone who is doing otherwise is disobeying orders.

oh really. Thats good then. He never mentioned nor had I heard of this. It was about a year ago he was telling me about this because he was saying people were grabbing things to take home. Im sure your right that the government is putting their foot down to what they can control.

I know ever since the big fuss over the Baghdad museum having been totally looted during the invasion and the great number of complaints coming from high up in academia the military became much stricter. I do remember several U.S military personnel being tried for stealing artifacts and other treasures during WWII, so I would believe that looting has been a concern for U.S military policy since then or before.
