The new Nook from Barnes and Noble

Has anyone seen the new Nook by Barnes and Noble. Pretty soon we won't need actual books.

I haven't seen the Nook up close yet, but I've been following it in the news/reviews. I thought about picking up one of the versions of the Kindle if it looked like I was going to be deployed with the Army Reserve (otherwise hard to justify the expense right now). It's going to be interesting to see which of these e-readers comes to dominate the market, especially once they start coming out with full color versions. These would be really nice for folks like archaeologists that often live out of their suitcase, once they drop in price and are a little bit more affordable.

I spoke to someone at B&N about the Nook - they were pushing the wifi aspect - apparently you never have to plug into a typical network to download the material - supposed to pick it up from the air wherever you may be (though i suspect like any network - can it hear me now...)

I agree, but I can see the advantage in the field, especially if you are away from your home base for very long, it just isn't feasible to tote many books around.

Absolutely. There were occasions when I wasn't home from my CRM travels for 4 months or more at a stretch, and there's only so much you can lug along.
These e-readers seem to be taking off in popularity, if all the different models and manufacturers making them is any indication. Maybe by the time they become more affordable, they will have worked all the kinks out, and we'll be able to get just about any title, and in color to boot. I see that there are a lot on Amazon but it would be nice if more textbooks and technical books were eventually offered.
