Volunteer Opportunity- Archaeology Laboratory Assistant
The Bayside Historical Society
Bayside, New York

The Bayside Historical Society is currently in need of 1-2 Archaeology Laboratory Assistants, to aid in a number of laboratory related activities and act as assistants on the BHS Archaeological Project. Volunteers should have an interest in history, archaeology, anthropology or museum studies.

Qualifications: High School or Undergraduate students interested in gaining archaeological experience.

As a volunteer with the BHS Archaeological Project skills/knowledge you will acquire include:
- Proper procedure when handling and cleaning artifacts
- Artifact photography
- Archaeological repository cataloguing and storage practices, such as re-housing and labeling culturally and historically significant materials
- Updating and maintaining an archaeological database
- Object and Pottery Drawing
- Artifact reconstruction
- Archaeological research
