Excavation of Roman Settlement, Otford, Kent, UK

Background
An archaeological investigation under the direction of the Darent Valley Archeological Project will take place in the village of Otford, Sevenoaks, Kent.
The Excavation will run from Sat the 3rd of April to Sunday the 11th of April 2009.
Aims of The Excavation
The purpose of the Investigation will be to investigate the presence of a large Roman settlement to establish the date and range of features found during excavations 2008 and 2009 and indication of possible votives offerings and Kilns. Recent test pits and analysis of pottery from the site has confirmed that evidence of large-scale Roman occupation over 350 years including possible Saxon occupation. In addition we also have evidence of late Iron Age occupation from an area 100 meters away.
The excavations planned for April 2010 will investigate the Eastern boundary looking at a possible defensive features, a possible rubbish deposal area form the settlement and a ditch feature found during the 2009 excavations.
Costs
The cost to join the excavations will depend on the personal requirements of the Volunteer and the options are as follows:
➢ 10 days excavations (no food or accommodation required) £50
➢ 10 days excavation plus 5 days Field School £80
➢ 10 days excavations Inc food (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) and camping accommodation £165
Field School
Two qualified archeologists who have over 10 years of teaching experience in a variety of fields will be teaching the field school. The topic covered includes Archeological survey (including use of Total stations), Geo Physis, Archeological drawing, finds identification and related topics.
