Field schools around Texas?
Massey914
I currently live on Oklahoma, and go to school here. I'm just doing my core classes at the college I am at, since it is cheap. I'm transferring to college in Texas in the fall to finish up my Anthro/Arch major/minor. This summer I want to knock out a couple field schools and some volunteer work though. The Texas Archaeological Society hosts a field school every summer, that I plan on attending. Can anyone recommend this? Also, are there any more field schools around that would be worth attending? Over the summer, travel will not be a problem as long as the field school is at least a week long affair. I also might try to get on a Passport in Time project for a various amount of time. Any suggestions would be helpful. I want to have a good resume when I finish my degree, and I would like to devote my next two summers to this.

The TAS field school is supposed to be a pretty good learning experience and a pretty good time. I have never been, but know lots of people who have. The TAS field school is not a credit hour type field school though, but it is shorter than most traditional ones (3 weeks I think). There is also going to be a field school in the Lower Pecos River area of Texas this summer, but it has not been officially announced. It is being hosted through Texas State University and you can earn college credit as well. I will post the info on the TSU field school when I find out more. Also, a lot of schools in Texas tend to focus on non Texas archaeology, often doing work in central America or Mexico. So depending on money and such you could look at doing one of their field schools if they have one, or just a field school that is related to whatever their program is focused on.
