DUTIES:

Executes and/or directs specific archeological surveys and other field assignments, from the stage of conducting prefield research to completion of site and survey documents that include narrative reports and maps. Employs GIS and GPS (with training provided if needed) to map cultural resource locations. Identifies and records archaeological sites, determines needed protection measures, and where appropriate participates in evaluating sites for National Register of Historic Places eligibility. Participates in tribal consultation as appropriate.

Provides technical assistance, consultation, and guidance on archeological studies, programs, and projects. Provides advice on the identification and management of cultural resources.

Ensures that scientific and systematic procedures are followed in identifying, evaluating, and classifying cultural resources.

Performs work related to planning and development of archeological/cultural resources program policy, objectives, and priorities. Participates in and has opportunities to help develop program projects.
