Recommendations for wellies and waterproofs
ramrod
I'm going on a dig in the UK this summer (I'm in the US) and would like to get some wellies and waterproofs. I have been looking at wellies online, but it's hard to tell which ones would be comfy for long days of surveying, hiking and excavations. On my last dig I had a pair of keen hiking boots and keen sandals (hot climate), but I haven't owned a pair of rubber boots. I'm in Oregon, I know, I should own a pair.
The keen boots I have were incredibly comfortable for extensive walking and standing. Many of the wellies I've looked at don't look super comfy. Anyone have recommendations on ones that would be good for archaeology? Thanks!

rather than carry them here, have you thought about buying when you get here.
I would suggest waiting till you arrive.. which dig are you on.. and I will be able to give you more idea of where to get... and what you will need.

I'd be interested in hearing any recommendations as well. I haven't had too many instances of needing rubber boots for any length of time (though the one project where someone asked me to "dig" an entire project area in a foot of standing water comes to mind..hmm). Most of the rain gear I've had through the years hasn't held up very well. Honestly I've usually purchased the low-end rain clothing, so that may account for it, but part of it has been that I've been hesitant to shell out real money for something that won't last.

I just used to but plastic bags inside my boots... :)
however... there is nothing wrong with a cheap pair of wellies.. and thick socks... the secret is in the socks !
For waterproofs.. try something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2PC-YELLOW-PVC-RAINSUIT-WATERPROOF-JACKET-TROUSERS-XL_W0QQitemZ280455095058QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=d2566f0d1260a0aad333b4b3ffec1b0a
again... if it has to last for a couple of weeks...
then give it to some poor archaeologists here ;) recycle!

You could also buy insoles for your wellies. I use a pair in mine and it helps with fitment and fatigue, as do good wool socks.

For wet weather boots, I've had very good luck with Muck boots. They're calf high and are made out of wetsuit like material.
I think these are the same ones: http://www.workinggear.com/gc/catalog/Muck-Boot-Chore-Hi-MBC-CHH-000A-cat1176.html?ROITrakid=138821\
I got mine at Tractor Supply several years ago for around $70 or $80.
