The Archeology Laboratory at Independence National Historical Park is offering part and full time intern positions July 5 - August 27, 2010 for undergraduate and graduate students. Interns assist in the processing and analysis of colonial and early American artifacts excavated at the National Constitution Center site in Philadelphia. The internship is primarily comprised of intensive hands-on laboratory work with a variety of material types. Interns are also trained to give interpretive talks to the general public about the National Constitution Center project, and will be required to give them as needed. Additional projects include but are not limited to, cataloging, historical research, and exhibit design. There is no excavation component to this internship.

Candidates should demonstrate an interest in one or more of the following: archeology, anthropology, history, research, museum studies, education, or public programs. All interns should posses an ability to deal effectively with the public and work with minimum supervision in a demanding public environment.

Interns are unpaid, volunteer level positions. Course credit is available for those enrolled in an accredited academic institution. A minimum of twenty working hours per week is required. Interns earning course credit will work the minimum number of hours required by their academic program. Interns must live within commuting distance.
