Archaeological Technician

Responsibilities:

·    These were Phase I, Phase II and Phase III projects consisting of predetermined transections.  Each transect was set at 100 meter intervals with each transect to be shovel tested.  The interval for shovel testing was determined to be 50 meters for zones of low probability of cultural occurrence and decreased from there for proscribed areas of high probability of cultural occurrence.  The shovel tests conducted physically were determined to be 50 cmbs wide by 1 meter deep.  Other responsibilities involved filing a daily log of shovel testing along with the maintenance of all data obtained throughout the project. Phase II consisted of 1meter by 1 meter squares with complete excavation down to 1 meter.  These also consisted of complete documentation of artifacts found as well as local topographical descriptions and stratification.  Phase III was total mitigation to virgin levels.  Complete documentation of artifacts, location, feature evaluation, feature bisection, and stratification of the levels excavated throughout.

Assistant Crew Chief

Responsibilities:

·    The last project I worked was a Phase II and Phase III excavation located in Colorado and Wyoming.  This project's focus was to determine a possible midden site and extramural activity zones and the possible relationship to a 2008 excavated basin house.  It was during this excavation that I was field promoted to an assistant crew chief.  The additional duties included counting and checking in artifacts on a daily basis, checking daily level forms from the other members of the crew, at peak 24 members total and checking unit summaries that were generated for the total of 350 square meter excavations during the project.  Also of note was the review of forms for over 40 features that were exposed during the general excavations during this project.  At the conclusion of the project there was the added responsibility of burying back the site and leveling the ground to a generally natural setting.
