Hey, I was wondering if anybody has any information about books or articles that discuss the cultural components of the fort ancient culture. Im not talking about the Fort Ancient site. I have ordered a book from the library That James Bennett Griffin wrote in '66. Anybody have some more recent stuff? I recieved an internship in Ohio and I want to know as much as I can but thanks for all the help.

Hello! Are you talking about the internship with the Boonshoft museum in Dayton, ohio? If so, I am also doing that internship! I would check out the Boonshoft Museum webpage under archaeology. They have a section on the Fort Ancient culture and the nearby Sunwatch village site that is very similar to the site we will be digging!

I don't know much Fort Ancient myself, but Penny Drooker at the NY State Museum did her early work on Fort Ancient. A listing of her work at the NYSM website ( http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/staff/details.cfm?staffID=27 ) includes:
Drooker, P. B. 2006.
Madisonville, Ohio, and Other Fort Ancient Sites. In Archaeology in America: An Encyclopedia, edited by F. P. McManamon, Greenwood Publishing Group, Westport, Connecticut.
Drooker, P. B., and C. W. Cowan. 2001.
The Dawn of History and the Transformation of the Fort Ancient Cultures of the Central Ohio Valley. In Societies in Eclipse: Archaeology of the Eastern Woodlands Indians, A.D. 1400-1700, edited by D. S. Brose, C. W. Cowan, and R. C. Mainfort, Jr., pp. 83-106. Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington, D. C..
Drooker, P. B. 2000.
Madisonville Focus Revisited: Reexcavating Fort Ancient from Museum Collections. In Cultures Before Contact: The Late Prehistory of Ohio and Surrounding Regions, edited by R. Genheimer, pp. 228-270. The Ohio Archaeological Council, Columbus, Ohio
Drooker, P. B. 1999.
Exotic Ceramics at Madisonville: Implications for Interaction. In Taming the Taxonomy: Toward a New Understanding of Great Lakes Archaeology, edited by R. F. Williamson, and C. M. Watts, pp. 71-82. Eastendbooks, Toronto, Ontario.
I hope this helps.
