Description:

This internship allows participants to gain experience working with archaeological collections, both Pre-Contact and historical, in a living history museum. Describe archaeological artifacts excavated over the past seventy years and enter them into a database by site. Investigate ways to teach children about archaeology in an indoor exhibit setting. Work on plan to add a permanent archaeology component to the museum’s interactive children's exhibit. Assist curator in making the collection more visible to the staff and public.
Position Summary: To gain experience cataloging and rehousing archaeological collections, and create ways to teach children about archaeology and material culture in the museum’s Children’s Discovery Room.
Responsibilities:

Responsibilities: Organize and inventory previously excavated collections and enter them into a database. Investigate ways of teaching archaeology in a museum exhibit, and develop ideas for short and long term additions to the museum's Children's Discovery Room.
Additional Responsibilities: Help monitor and maintain static exhibits. Assist with library research enquiries. Work with the public as needed (kids’ exhibit, orientation theaters). Work on other additional projects according to interests and time.
Length of Internship: Summer 2011 (June 6-August 12th)
